Rishabh Pant

Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha believes that Rishabh Pant could be a potential candidate to lead Team India in the future. While speaking to Sports Today, Pragyan Ojha appreciated Pant's composure and the way he handled himself after the heart-breaking loss. The veteran's comments came after Delhi Capitals' 1-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 22 of IPL 2021. The wicket-keeper batsman came up with a brilliant knock (48-ball 58 not out). He also formed a partnership with Shimron Hetmyer and took the RCB bowling attack to the cleaners at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Despite Pant and Hetmyer going big in the end overs, DC fell short of Bangalore's total by just 1 run.

Rishabh Pant will improve under the guidance of head coach Ravi Shastri: Pragyan Ojha

Although Rishabh Pant still has a long road ahead, Pragyan Ojha is optimistic that the youngster has the skills to captain the Indian cricket team one day. Ojha also reckoned that Team India's team management should try to groom him as a leader. He also feels that Rishabh Pant will improve as a player under the guidance of head coach Ravi Shastri.

Notably, the batsman was declared DC's new skipper following Shreyas Iyer's shoulder injury. He dislocated his shoulder during the ODI series against England and has now been ruled out of the entire IPL season. In his absence, the onus was passed on young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant to deliver as captain. The 23-year-old is the youngest skipper in the ongoing season and is also lead an IPL team for the first time in his career.

Pragyan Ojha also heaped rich praise on RCB skipper Virat Kohli. The former spinner stated that Kohli is glorified to see youngsters performing even if they are from other IPL franchises. The former spinner, a Purple Cap winner in the past, said he felt Virat Kohli has cracked the code of nurturing young cricketers. Remarkably, Virat Kohli had also expressed delight at Ravindra Jadeja's all-around performance. The Chennai Super Kings all-rounder single-handedly dismantled RCB's batting line-up. Delhi Capitals lost the recent match against Royal Challengers Bangalore by just one run. Rishabh Pant & Co. will next face Kolkata Knight Riders on 29th April at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. On the other end, RCB will next be in action again this Friday when they face the Punjab Kings.
