Former Indian batsman Suresh Raina opines that Rishabh Pant will be a great leader for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021. The batsman was declared DC's new skipper following Shreyas Iyer's shoulder injury. He dislocated his shoulder during the ODI series against England and has been ruled out of the entire IPL season. In his absence, the onus will be on young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant to deliver as captain. The 23-year-old will be the youngest skipper in the forthcoming season and will also lead an IPL team for the first time in his career.

Its an absolute honour to lead the team: Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has been in great form this year. The left-handed batsman had a poor 2020 as he lost his spot in the Indian team across all the formats and also had a poor IPL. However, the youngster proved his worth and impressed against England at home in all the formats. The 23-year-old, who joined the Delhi Capitals in 2016, stated that it's an absolute honor to lead the team. Pant also thanked the franchise owners for choosing him for performing the role and hopes that with the help of the accomplished senior players and coaching staff, he would be able to give his best.

Pant would now be hoping that his fine form with the bat continues in his maiden IPL season as captain. Delhi Capitals, who are targeting their first-ever IPL title this year, would be hoping that Rishabh Pant turns out to be the lucky charm for them. The Delhi-based franchise made it to the final in the last edition and is one of the favorites in the 14th edition of the league.

As Rishabh Pant gears up to lead Delhi for the first time, veteran cricketer Suresh Raina has congratulated him on the appointment. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina will also reap a lot of attention this year as he returns to the tournament after almost two years. The southpaw had skipped the last season of the competition in the UAE, citing personal reasons. However, CSK had retained him for IPL 2021, and the batsman would be enthusiastic about repaying the faith shown in him by the franchise. The Delhi Capitals will commence their IPL 2021 campaign against MS Dhoni's team on April 10 in Mumbai.
