The veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter and current commentator Dinesh Karthik has come up with a statement on the senior off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin. Karthik felt that the World's number one Test bowler deserves to captain India once in his international career. Notably, Karthik and Ashwin had also played for the same state team Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket.

"I believe Ashwin deserves to captain India once,” said Karthik to PTI while talking about Ashwin.

This statement from Karthik for the veteran Indian all-rounder one of the modern-day greats, Ravichandran Ashwin, drew contrasting reactions on social media. The cricket fans took to Twitter and came up with a lot of reactions on the chances of Ashwin leading India sooner or later in the near future.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Notably, Ashwin was in the headlines of social media for the blunt statement in his recent interview. In the interview, he spoke about a couple of things like the current environment of the dressing room in modern-day cricket. Apart from that, he also spoke clearly about his omission from India's playing XI of the World Test Championship 2023 final.

"Once upon a time when cricket was played, all your teammates were friends. Now, they are colleagues. There's a big difference because here people are there to advance themselves and to stride ahead of another person sitting to your right or left. So, nobody's got the time to say, 'Okay, boss what are you up to'?" said Ashwin to Indian Express.

"It's a hard question to answer, right? Because we are standing right after the WTC Final. I would have loved to play because I have played a part in us getting there. Even in the last final I got four wickets and bowled really well. Ever since 2018-19, my bowling overseas has been fantastic and I have managed to win games for the team," said Ashwin on being asked about his exclusion from the playing XI of India in the WTC 2023 final against Australia.
