On 10 November 2022, team India’s journey got ended in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup in Australia. The Men in blue took on England in Adelaide in the second semi-final of the tournament. But, they failed to win the game as England defeated them by a huge margin of 10 wickets.

Before this 20-20 World Cup, all Indian fans were hopeful that India can go all the way to win the silverware. After the 20-20 World Cup in 2021, Virat Kohli left the captaincy in the shortest format of the game. But then, the Indian Cricket Board decided to consider Rohit Sharma as the captain for both the T20Is and ODIs. Even, Virat Kohli left the Test captaincy after the South Africa tour. So, Rohit Sharma became the captain of India across all three formats.

Rohit Sharma has a great record of captaincy in his career. In the history of the Indian T20 League, Rohit has won the tournament five times for his Mumbai franchise. In 2018, he also led team India to the Asia Cup victory. So, fans were in a jubilant mood after he became the captain of India. Everyone was hoping that Rohit Sharma will end the drought of major titles after India did not win a single title in Virat Kohli’s captaincy era.

So, all eyes were on Rohit Sharma and his captaincy in this World Cup. Team India started the tournament by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan. In the group stage, India were the table toppers after winning four out of their five matches. But, again in the semi-final, Rohit Sharma failed to guide his team as they lost the match one-sided. It was another heart-breaking moment for Indian fans. But, Virat Kohli fans were fuming as they criticized the Board to consider Rohit as the captain.
