Axar Patel, a spinner for the Indian cricket team, successfully pulled off a brilliant direct hit to run out Mitchell Starc and return him to the pavilion. Axar is simply on the field to fill up for Mohammed Shami as a replacement fielder; he is not participating in this game for India. Axar, who is in incredible form this season, has contributed despite not being in the starting lineup.
This was the fourth wicket for Australia on day two of play. To find wickets, Rohit Sharma called in Mohammed Siraj, but Axar took care of that for him. When Axar was fielding at midfield, Mitchell Starc attempted to steal a run from him but was unable due to the excellent direct hit. Australia will end the first session of Day 2 at 422/7. Although India managed to take four wickets in the session, the Aussies added another handy 95 runs.
Axar Patel talked about the challenges of playing with Dukes Ball
According to Axar Patel, the just finished IPL allowed them the chance to extensively rehearse with the Duke ball, which in some ways levels the playing field given that the Indian players will already be familiar with the seam movement that will be displayed in England.
said, “We knew about this before the start of the IPL. So even during the IPL, it was discussed that we will bowl with the red ball. We had red balls, so we were using them. You know when and how to play, how much time you have. This mental switch from white ball to red ball is obviously tough, but we have enough time.”
He also shed light on the challenges of using a Dukes ball, “We switch from white ball to red ball. It is a similar switch to go from SG to Dukes, you have to use your talent and skill. You have to execute your plan, your bowling rhythm. Irrespective of the ball, if you bowl a good ball at a good spot, it works. So, that’s what we’re doing. Since the match is in England, which is different from India, we are planning what lines and lengths will work here. The same thing in practice, we are good to go. The difference is the Dukes ball remains shinier for longer. But during the IPL, we had ordered the ball, so were practicing with it and have gotten used to it.”
