Rohit Sharma and the Mumbai Indians won against the Delhi Capitals by five wickets on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, moving to the top of the IPL 2020 points table. The half-centuries struck by Quinton De Kock and Suryakumar Yadav led the team to get an easy win over DC.
MI's captain expressed his pleasure for his team after they chased down a tricky total of 163 and faced the strong bowling attack of Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals made two changes in their team, while Mumbai Indians made no changes in their starting eleven. DC drafted Ajinkya Rahane for Rishabh Pant and replacing Shimron Hetmyer, they brought in Alex Carey to keep wickets. Within the powerplay over, DC lost two of their wickets. But, Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan carried on with the game. Together, they made a stand of 85 runs. However, the Mumbai Indians cornered their opponent to a score of 162 runs only.
After coming to chase, MI lost their captain, as they started at a slow pace. However, Quinton De Kock partnered with Suryakumar Yadav to add 46 runs before he returned. Suryakumar added another 53 runs along with Ishan Kishan.
Nearing the end of the match, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje kept everyone glued to the match and made it more interesting. However, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya helped their side win the match.
Rohit Sharma has full confidence in his team
Rohit Sharma praised his team after the match and said that he felt pleased with everyone’s performance. He is happy that the first part of the tournament is coming to a close. MI's captain stressed on the significance of a batting pair, who could lead the innings throughout until the victory. Their performance gives him huge confidence in a campaign where the team is fighting to defend their IPL title.
“Means a lot. The kind of cricket we are playing gives us confident going forward. Really pleased how we have played in the first half of the tournament. Perfect day for us. We did everything right today. We bowled really well, then clinical with the bat. Not so much in the end but we will take it. We have always spoken of the importance of one set batter till the end because he knows the conditions. That is one thing we need to tighten. Again I don’t want to go too much into this. Chasing has not been that good this tournament, but the way we did it, it gives us confidence that we can chase any target,”
