India began their home season with a bang as they whitewashed New Zealand 3-0 in a three-match T20I series, which concluded on Sunday (November 21). In all three games, the visitors were found wanting on slow and low subcontinent conditions. Even without a few senior players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, India looked threatening.

The catalyst of this thumping series win was Rohit Sharma. The captain led from the front and stamped his class in the first full-time series as captain. The 34-year-old scored 159 runs in three T20Is and won the Player of the Series award. He thus joined Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli as the captains who have won Player of the Series award in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma also scored a match-winning half-century, which was his 30th in the shortest format. He thus has most fifties for a batter in T20Is. The captain has also registered  his 25th fifty as an opener. He leads Martin Guptill and David Warner, placed second and third with two and three fifties respectively. Guptill has 23 fifties while Warner has 22.

Rohit Sharma has also hit six fifties against New Zealand. He is currently in the third position in the list of most fifties against an opposition. Virat Kohli tops the charts with seven fifties against Australia, while David Warner is second on the list with six half-centuries against Sri Lanka.

The whitewash against New Zealand was also the third instance of India winning the series 3-0 in a three-match T20I series at home. The other two instances have also come under Rohit’s captaincy against Sri Lanka and West Indies in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
