More than 24 hours have passed after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for an upcoming tour to Australia. And the mystery has deepened over the exclusion of Rohit Sharma from the squad for all three formats.

India’s vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is, Rohit Sharma has missed the last two games of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. The cause was his hamstring injury, as announced by his IPL team management.

No word came out about Rohit's fitness since then. However, moments after the BCCI announced the names of the Indian squad for the tour, stating that the medical team of BCCI will keep monitoring Rohit’s progress, the batsman came out for full-fledged batting practice for IPL upcoming games. Mumbai Indians posted a video on their social media. The video gave rise to the theory that Rohit was making a statement with his bat to the Indian team management.

No explanation came from BCCI

Apart from the one-line update in the BCCI statement, no one involved in the India team has given any other clarification. The selectors, the BCCI, the player himself, even Mumbai Indians team management have maintained silence over the selection. The legendary batsman of India, Sunil Gavaskar, has put in that the fans have the right to know about the reasons why Rohit was not included in the squad for Australia. Rather than being straightforward, Indian cricket management has kept on working in conspicuous manners.

Everyone is pondering on the possible reasons for the exclusion of India’s hitman. Was Rohit excluded from limited-overs squads because of the injury? Or does he not meet the fitness criteria for international cricket? Did he deny participating, referring to life in a bubble, possibly without his family in Australia? To add to it, will this indicates the end of the IPL 2020 campaign for the player? And the list of questions is going on.
