Shubman Gil sent all fans crazy when he smashed 208 runs off 149 balls in the first match of the ongoing ODI series at home against the Kiwis. Thus, he became the fifth Indian batter to score a double century in ODIs. Eventually, Gill also became the fastest Indian batter to score 1000 ODI runs in just 19 matches.

In his short ODI career so far, Gill has impressed everyone with his batting abilities at the top order. However, now an old tweet from the current team India skipper Rohit Sharma has gone viral where he predicted that Shubman Gill is the future of team India. However, his tweet came after Shubman Gill shared a ‘Happy Birthday’ tweet.

Here is the shared tweet:

Shubman Gill has scored 1102 runs in 19 ODIs so far for team India

Speaking of the tweet, Shubman Gill wrote: "Well no one does pull shots better than the #Hitman Happy Birthday! @ImRo45." In reply, Rohit wrote: "Thanks future". Speaking about Gill’s ODI career, he has scored 1102 runs so far in 19 matches, at an average of 68.87.

Speaking about his mammoth knock against New Zealand, Gill said: "This knock means a lot to me. I could not convert in the first ODI and third game (against Sri Lanka), I was looking to get a big score but it didn't happen. Once I was set, the focus was to score as many runs as possible. With the extra fielder inside the circle (in overs 11-40), we see the other teams pushing in the middle overs. Even when wickets were falling, I wanted to show intent to the bowlers because it's very easy to bowl dot balls if the batter is not showing intent.”

“So, that was my intent when the wickets were falling that 'I will hit you if you are going to bowl bad balls'. Consistency is very important to me, it's the key to everything. As a batter that is what I strive for in any format. It feels good when things you are doing repeatedly are paying off," Shubman Gill concluded.
