Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir made a big statement when asked about who should be credited for India’s ODI World Cup 2011 win. He said that the media and the fans haven’t credited stars like Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Suresh Raina, Munaf Patel and Sachin Tendulkar as much as they all deserved.
The statement came from Gambhir in the wake of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, in India. He was talking about the same during an interaction with RevSportz. Apart from that, Gambhir also blamed the media for being obsessed with one winning six of MS Dhoni.

"We haven't credited Yuvraj enough for the 2011 World Cup. Even Zaheer Khan, Suresh Raina, and Munaf Patel. Sachin Tendulkar was the highest run scorer, but do we talk about that? The media keep talking about that one MS Dhoni six. You're obsessed with individuals; you've forgotten the team,” said Gambhir to RevSportz in an interview.
“When I played that inning, my thinking was not about getting celebrated. My thinking was if I can make 100 crore people happy if I can make my country proud, that is all I have picked up my bat for,” he added.
Currently, Team India, under the captaincy of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, is set to be in action in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Men in Blue will take on the arch-rivals, Pakistan on the 2nd of September at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Meanwhile, Gambhir’s statement has attracted a lot of reactions on social media from Indian cricket fans. They trolled the former cricketer for being jealous of MS Dhoni and always talking about the ODI World Cup 2011 win even more than the media.
