England's opening batsman Dom Sibley and skipper Joe Root have made the most from the conditions as England went wicketless in the second session. The duo helped England reach 140/2 at Tea on Day One of the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Team India would be disappointed as things didn't go well for them. Apart from Ashwin, none of their spinners managed to pick up a wicket. And with Ishant Sharma bowling short spells, there was too much responsibility on Jasprit Bumrah.
After losing two consecutive wickets, England made a stable start in the second session. Root and Sibley both played with contrasting styles but found ways to impress at the crease. The England captain relied on his experienced sweep, both reverse and conventional, to score runs behind the wicket. Dominic Sibley started timidly but gained confidence in the later period of the game. The runs began to pour as soon as the opening batsman resorted to using his feet. Subley quickly reached his 50 and looked to get a big score after putting in all the hard work.
Joe Root becomes 10th batsman to achieve a huge record in 100th Test
Virat Kohli brought back Ashwin and Bumrah as the side searched for a breakthrough, but the visitors ended the session just like they started. As India's bowling unit bowlers tire out, the English batsmen are expected to pick up the day's final session scoring rate. Root became the 10th batsman to score a century in his 100th Test match.
