Chennai got off to a good start in the match against Lucknow, but Ruturaj Gaikwad could not do much in the match. Gaikwad was involved in an unfortunate run out as Ravi Bishnoi's hit was on target. This was Gaikwad's second failure in two matches.

Andrew Tye's ball hit Ruturaj Gaikwad on the pads and then went straight to Ravi Bishnoi at the backward point. The umpire denied the LBW appeal, and amidst the confusion, Gaikwad found himself out of the crease. Bishnoi's throw was spot on as Gaikwad was out of the crease. He scored just one run before departing to the dressing room.

This was a second failure for the 2021 orange cap winner in consecutive innings. He scored a duck in the first game against Kolkata as well. All this has not gone down too well with the fans. He was expected to play many good innings this season, considering his form in recent times.

Fans on Twitter had mixed reactions to his failure. Some sympathized with his unfortunate run out, while others were upset as they expected a lot better performance from him. Notably, he scored 635 runs last season to claim the orange cap. He also hit a century in the 16 matches that he played in the season. Based on this performance, he was retained by the team ahead of the mega auction.
