CSK opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad clarified the bond between MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis. After a disappointing season at UAE in 2020, the Yellow Army roared back in style in the 14th season of the Indian Premier League. CSK was at the top of the points table for most of the tournament because of two individuals. MS Dhoni rediscovered his touch as captain of the team, and Proteas batsman Faf du Plessis performed brilliantly in IPL 2021. The South African batsman scored 320 runs from seven matches. This also includes four consecutive half-centuries. Chennai Super Kings won five games out of seven outings in the 14th IPL season.
Their bond is excellent because they both respect each other a lot: Ruturaj Gaikwad
The success that Chennai Super Kings has had over the last few years has a lot to do with the equations shared between the players, especially with their captain MS Dhoni. Talking on the same, CSK's opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad had a decent IPL 2021. However, before the tournament was halted, the youngster explained what the bond is like between two of the team's senior-most players – Dhoni and Faf du Plessis.
Gaikwad and du Plessis had been a great opening pair for Chennai in IPL 2020. Ruturaj Gaikwad reported how MS Dhoni and the management had expectations from him. MS Dhoni decided to give more opportunities following his controversial remark and told him not to worry about the highs and lows and enjoy the games. That encouraged the 23-year-old, who ultimately finished the season with 204 runs from six games. Chennai Super Kings bowed out of the competition at the league stage for the first time in the history of IPL. With six wins from 14 games, the three-time champions finished the tournament at the seventh spot. CSK will hope to overcome the glitch in 2020 when they enter the field in IPL 2021.
Talking about the CSK captain, he found it very difficult to perform with the bat in IPL 2021. He has failed to score a half-century since the 2019 season. MS Dhoni would often come in late to bat, but he was unable to get going immediately. MS Dhoni was brilliant while leading the Yellow Army, and his decision to send England all-rounder Moeen Ali up the order proved to be a masterstroke. However, MS Dhoni will now be seen in action in September when the IPL resumes.
