The first or inaugural season of the SA20 league kicked off on 10 January 2023. Six different teams began their quest to win this for the first time. Before this league, all teams developed a strong squad.
So, fans are hoping to see a great tournament in the coming days. However, there are several players who have started the tournament in a good form with the bat. Thus, some players are front runners to become the highest run-scorer this season.
Here are three top batters who can become the highest run-scorer in the inaugural season of SA20:
Donovan Ferreira
This all-rounder from South Africa made headlines in his debut match only in the SA20 tournament. Donovan Ferreira is playing for Joburg Super Kings. In the first match, he scored 82* runs off 40 balls, including eight fours and five sixes. Donovan Ferreira also took one wicket for 28 runs in four overs.
He also won the player of the match award for his all-around performance. In the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League, he will play for the Rajasthan franchise. They bought him for INR 50 lakhs, in last month’s player auction. As of now, he has scored 88 runs in two innings, at an average of 88 and a strike rate of 183.33.
Jos Buttler
England’s 20-20 World Cup, 2022 winning skipper will look to score the most runs in the inaugural season of the SA20 league. Jos Buttler is playing for Paarl Royals. As of now, he has scored 80 runs in two innings, at an average of 80 and a strike rate of 126.98. In the last edition of the Indian T20 League, he won the orange cap for scoring the most runs for the Rajasthan franchise.
Buttler has already smashed a 50-plus score in this tournament. He scored 51 runs off 42 balls, including six fours and one six in the first match against MI Cape Town. Though, it went in vain as his team lost that match. In the second match, he scored 29* runs and ensured the team’s victory.
Phil Salt
This explosive batter from England can become the highest run-getter in this first season of the SA20 league. Phil Salt is playing for Pretoria Capitals. As of now, he has played only one match. But, Salt has scored 77 runs at a strike rate of 163.82. However, he has impressed so far with his batting abilities in his short International career.
In that match against Surisers Eastern Cape, he scored 77 runs off 47 balls, including 11 fours. Speaking of his career for England, he has scored 245 runs so far in 12 innings. However, he has scored those runs at a staggering strike rate of 161.18. So, this player can be key for Pretoria Capitals.
