In the first qualifier of the ongoing SA20 2024, the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Durban Super Giants locked horns. The Orange Army, Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat first. The team had a decent start with Dawid Malan and Jordan Hermann putting together 45 runs in 6.2 overs. The former scored 63 off 45 balls including six fours and one six.

Skipper Aiden Markram scored 30 and the team reached 157/8. For the Blue Brigade, skipper Keshav Maharaj and Junior Dala took two wickets each. On the other hand, Afghanistan international Naveen-ul-Haq and former South Africa international Dwaine Pretorius took one each. In the chase, the table toppers from the league, Super Giants had a poor start as they lost two wickets for 13 runs.

Things got worse as JJ Smuts was caught at mid-on by Markram as the latter flew high to send his former teammate back into the pavilion. For the unversed, Smuts played for the eventual winners for the 2023 season.
