The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to begin on March 31 with 10 teams all geared up to set the competition underway. This will be the first time since 2019, the home-and-away format will be used across the 10 sides, meaning that all the games are expected to pull huge crowds and provide action and entertainment.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai captain and star Indian batter Rohit Sharma might sit out for a few matches in the Indian T20 League to manage the workload, according to reports. Reports also said that Suryakumar Yadav could be at the helm for the Mumbai franchise in the India captain’s absence.
The decision to sit out might have also come with the Test Championship being around the corner. Mumbai’s campaign will begin on April 2 as they will face off against Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
Rohit Sharma delivered milk packets to buy his cricket kit: Pragyan Ojha
Rohit’s former Mumbai and India teammate Pragyan Ojha revealed an interesting story about the Mumbai batter from his early days. Ojha said that Rohit’s budget for cricket kits was restricted and that he had deliver milk packets to be able to afford a kit.
“He (Rohit) was from a middle-class family and I remember he once got emotional when we discussed how his budget for cricket kits was restricted. In fact, he also delivered milk packets – of course that was really a long time ago – so that he could buy his kit. Now when I see him, I feel very proud of how our journey started and where we reached,” said Ojha in an interview in Jio Cinema.
Rohit, who has been criticised for lack of consistent performances with the bat and not being among runs in T20s in recent times, might look to turn it around and find his rhythm again in this competition. And with Mumbai finishing at the bottom of the table in 2022, he and his teammates would be raring to turn it around this time.
Here is how fans reacted to Rohit opting to sitting out for a few games in Indian T20 League 2023:
It's going to be very difficult for Ambani to leave out Rohit Sharma in crucial matches.

Scenario 1 : if rohit plays good in the 1st half ,then his pr will say this information was fake

2. If rohit performs poorly in the 1st half ,he might be rested for the world cup,
LMAO, They're preparing for him in advance 🤣
When the decision of managing workload comes from Bcci....the captain has once again put his hands first and will manage hi workload during IPL..just hope the core players of ICT who will be part of WTC final and World Cup will take a lead out of Rohit Sharma's Book and will rest

I m an mi fan but i couldnt care less about this ipl. All focus has to be on the WTC final and World Cup. For that, if key indian players take a rest, doesnt matter.
— Nihar Bhagat (@bhagat_nihar) March 28, 2023
Ohhh not fair! If he wishes to manage his workload, he should sit out during the WTC Finals. Afterall IPL is what that actually matters for most of our players and that's why IPL is scheduled such that it ends just before the WTC finals!
— Dr Rakshit Sonpal (@rsonpal) March 29, 2023
Indirectly saying he will be dropped from IPL team 😭😭
