During a discussion on a news channel, Saba Karim opined that the Sri Lanka tour would probably challenge Hardik Pandya as a batsman.
The new-look Indian team is set to play six limited-overs matches across two formats on their tour of Sri Lanka. The tour consists of three ODIs and as many T20Is starting from 18th July. Hardik Pandya is one of the vital members of the Indian squad. He is expected to hit the big runs for the team and there are rumors that he will also bowl during the series.
Sri Lankan tracks are usually low and slow. So, it can be a challenge for Hardik Pandya while he is on the crease to bat. During the IPL as well, Hardik Pandya struggled on the slow pitches of Chennai. The wickets in Sri Lanka are similar to that of Chennai. So it is uncertain if he can make runs at a good strike rate in such conditions in white-ball cricket.
During the Sri Lanka tour, two selectors will be present with the team. If Hardik Pandya performs with the bat as well as the ball in the series there is a chance that he would be sent to England. The national team in England lacks a fast-bowling all-rounder for the five-match Test series against England. But Hardik Pandya would have to prove his fitness and capabilities to get a chance to play with the main squad in England.
Hardik Pandya was initially excluded from the main squad that was flown to England because he was deemed unfit to bowl in the red-ball format. But it is advisable that even if he performs well in the Sri Lanka tour, he should not be sent to England. It is important to not overexert him before the T20 World Cup.
Hardik Pandya will play a significant role in helping India secure a win in the upcoming World Cup tournaments
If Hardik Pandya is fit then India would have higher chances of winning the T20 World Cup. Saba Karim stated that if he can bowl as well as bat throughout the Sri Lanka tour then India would have better chances of winning the upcoming ICC tournament.
The team management will have to make sure that Hardik Pandya is at his peak fitness before the T20 World Cup. His workload should get properly managed to retain his strength slowly. He mustn't be overworked before the T20 World Cup so that he can give his best performance during the tournament.
