Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the best batter to have played the game and to date remains the only player to score 100 international centuries and the all-time top run-getter in Tests and One Day Internationals. While Sachin has numerous cricketing records to his name, his on-field rival Shoiab Akhtar reckons that the batting legend would have easily amassed 1 lakh runs with the current cricket rules.
The pace icon clarified by saying that cricket has become very batting-oriented now with two new balls in the ODIs and three reviews which gives the batter another chance in case a decision is made against them and they are not convinced.
"You have brought two new balls. You have made the rules stricter. You give as much leverage as possible to batsmen. You allow three reviews. Imagine if Sachin (Tendulkar) had three reviews during his time, he would have scored 1 lakh runs," said Shoaib Akhtar while interacting on his official YouTube channel.
Shoaib Akhtar explains what makes Sachin Tendulkar a tough batter
At the same time, the 'Rawalpindi Express' also called the Master Blaster a very tough batter for having faced the likes of his countrymen Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and spin legend Shane Warne before going on to play Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee and the new generation of fast bowlers.
"Poor Sachin – I say ‘poor Sachin' because he initially played against Wasim (Akram) and Waqar (Younis), he played against Shane Warne, then played against Brett Lee and Shoaib (Akhtar), and later he played the next generation of fast bowlers. That's why I call him a very tough batter," said Akhtar.
Sachin Tendulkar amassed 34,357 runs in his illustrious international cricketing career and also scored 51 Test tons ad 49 ODI tons. He bid adieu to the game in November 2013.
