Babar Azam and his men experienced a new low in the history of their cricket when England whitewashed them in the three-match Test series at home. After losing all those matches, they managed to lose four games in a calendar year for the first time in their history. So, all eyes were on the Men in Green when they took on the Kiwis on 26 December 2022.

The first game of the two-match series took place in Karachi. Speaking of the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. But, Babar Azam surprised everyone when he said that Mohammad Rizwan has been dropped. Instead of him, Sarfaraz Ahmed made a comeback to the playing XI after a gap of nearly four years.

Fans were happy after Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 86 runs off 153 balls in the first inning of the Karachi Test

Sarfaraz Ahmed last played a Test match for his country in January 2019 against the Proteas at Johannesburg. Mohammad Rizwan failed to contribute with the bat in the longest format compared to the white-ball formats in 2022. In 15 innings, he scored 401 runs, at an average of 30.84. In the last series against England at home, he scored only 141 runs in six innings, at an average of 23.50. So, fans were not happy and they also wanted to see Sarfaraz Ahmed back in the team in place of Rizwan.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz has managed to score a significant amount of runs in the domestic arena for a considerable time. Therefore, the team management gave him a chance in this match. Speaking of the match, the home side were in trouble once again when they scored just 110 runs for four wickets in 29 overs. But, then, the skipper Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed managed to put up a solid partnership of 196 runs for the fifth wicket. Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 50 runs off 84 balls, including seven boundaries. Finally, he got out after scoring 86 runs off 153 balls, including nine boundaries.
