Salman Butt claims that wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is a strong contender as Virat Kohli's successor to lead India in the future. Recently, Rishabh Pant led the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was ruled out of the 14th IPL season due to a dislocated shoulder. When the tournament was suspended back on May 4, the Delhi-based franchise was placed on the top of the points table with 12 points. Although Pant's performance with the bat wasn't that great, he was still able to grab the limelight in his stint as the captain in the Indian Premier League. According to Salman Butt, the Board of Control for Cricket in India will definitely have some plans for the youngster after giving him the responsibility in the IPL.

Rahane took the accurate decisions, and they paid off: Salman Butt

Salman Butt also praised opening batsman Rohit Sharma for his leadership skills over the years. In 2013, Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy reins of Mumbai Indians, and ever since then, the franchise has won five titles. The 34-year-old has also done a fantastic job as the vice-captain of the Indian team. Moreover, Salman Butt praised India's Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane as well. In the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Rahane led the Indian cricket team in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli who had to leave due to paternal duties. After losing the first test match, India bounced back stronger and won the Test series 2-1. Butt stated that in the series, Rahane took the accurate decisions, and they paid off.

After the series win in Australia, Ajinkya Rahane became the third Indian captain after Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly to remain unbeaten in his first two Tests as a captain away home. Team India won by eight wickets under Rahane's captaincy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Under Kapil Dev's captaincy, the side managed to draw the first two Tests of the 1985/86 Australian tour. Meanwhile, when Sourav Ganguly was India's captain for the first time in 2003-04, the men in blue drew the Test in Brisbane. Following that, they defeated the hosts by four wickets in Adelaide. Salman Butt signed off by saying that India does not need to worry about this topic shortly. However, considering the Indian team has many options, the former Pakistan batsman feels that it would be that difficult to take a call.
