Michael Vaughan's comments comparing Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson recently came under fire on social media. The former Pakistan batsman, Salman Butt, also gave his take on a youtube video on his channel. He called this comparison 'irrelevant' and stated that Vaughan tends to say things that are controversial.
The former England Captain stated in an interview that Kane Williamson could have been the best cricketer in the world. The only reason he isn't is because of Kohli's huge Indian fanbase. According to him, people are scared of saying so due to fear of being targeted by Virat's fans.
However, in his recent YouTube video, Salman Butt has fired back against these comments. The former Pakistan player who played in 78 ODIs, 33 Tests, and 24 T20Is has good analytical skills. He called Vaughan's comments 'irrelevant'. He further noted that Kohli is called the best because he has the record to back that up.
Kohli's statistics are far superior to any other international cricketer of this era
He is the only batsman who has more than a 50 average in all formats of international cricket. He has a cumulative count of runs across formats with more than 22,000. The Indian Captain also has 70 international hundreds putting him on the 3rd spot in the list.
Kohli does have a huge fanbase due to his home country having a large population. His performance is also the best. This eliminates the need for any comparison with other cricketers.
Kane Williamson might be a better captain and a brilliant batsman. But he pales in comparison to the consistency with which Kohli has performed for India.
Salman Butt also went on to take a dig at the former England captain, Michael Vaughan. Butt stated that although Vaughan was a good Captain, his performance as a batsman wasn't up to par. He never scored a century in the ODIs and this doesn't seem worthy for an opener. He also noted that Vaughan likes to say controversial things and people have a tendency to stretch it out.
Williamson and Kohli will face each other in the upcoming final of the WTC. It will be at the Hampshire Bowl, Southampton from 18th June onwards.
