England all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the following T20 World Cup in UAE. Curran, who was part of the CSK squad in the IPL, complained of pain after CSK’s match against Rajasthan Royals and underwent scans to know the extent of the injury which was found to be concerning.

The left-arm seamer will fly back home and will be monitored by the England Cricket Board (ECB) medical team. The development was confirmed in a statement released by the ECB. Meanwhile, Curran’s brother Tom Curran has been named as a replacement for Sam Curran. The right arm seamer was already with the squad as a travelling reserve. Also, Reece Topley has been added to the squad as a travelling reserve.

“He (Sam Curran) will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB’s medical team,” ECB’s statement read.

Sam Curran didn’t play much in the UAE leg of IPL and represented CSK only in a couple of games, giving away more than 50 runs in both outings. Meanwhile, the non-IPL players of the England squad reached Muscat on Tuesday. The players will stay there till October 16. England are set to play two warm-up games against India and New Zealand ahead of the World Cup. The team is clubbed together with Pakistan, Australia and West Indies in Group A and open their campaign against defending champions West Indies on October 23 in Dubai.
