The Australian Open 2023 (AO 2023) is ongoing and the players are giving it their all to life the title, given that it is one of the most prestigious Grand Slams going around. India’s pride Sania Mirza, who is appearing in her last Grand Slam, lost the contest alongside her partner from Kazakhstan, Anna Danilina.

To add more to the AO 2023 match, the pair faced off against Alison Van Uytvanck from Belgium and Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina, only to lose with a scoreline of  4-6 6-4 2-6 in the second round of the highly competitive tournament. While it was a heartbreak for Danilina, Mirza will stay alive in the race as she is a part of the mixed doubles alongside Rohan Bopanna.

As far as the match is concerned, the first set was a hard-fought victory for Uytvanck and Kalinina, with them losing the second set to the Indian-Kazakh pair although they won the first three games of the set in a go. Much to the delight of the Indian fans, Mirza and her partner bounced back and won the second set, failing to clinch the game in the third set.

Sania Mirza to bid adieu after WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships

Mirza will go down as the most successful tennis player for India with six Grand Slams to her name and the 36-year-old is currently appearing in her last-ever Grand Slam event, post which she will bid adieu after taking part in the WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships set to get underway on February 19.

While the Mirza-Bopanna pair would look to make it up in the mixed doubles, fans were left disheartened as the women’s pairs gave the veteran an edge to taste the title one last time. However, all is not over and she would look to make it up in the mixed doubles, making India proud one last time.

If at all Mirza manages to win it alongside Bopanna, it would be a great finish to what has been a stellar career. With hopes kept alive, the pair would leave no stone unturned to give a tough fight in their next encounter against Ariel Behar and Makoto Ninomiya.
