With 36 wins and 14 losses, Virat Kohli is the most successful Test captain of India. He has impressively led the Indian team to succeed in home and away games over the last few years. The Indian team has gone on to shine under his leadership. But the lack of ICC trophy in his cabinet has often earned him criticisms.

After the excellent performance of Team India against Australia and England in 2020-21, the Indian side looked confident walking into the WTC final. But the loss in the title match again earned Kohli many negative criticisms. But the former Indian batting coach believes that Kohli would captain the Indian team more than any other player in history.

In a recent interview, Sanjay Bangar stated that as a captain all the players try to dictate their team to success especially in big events. The leaders always want the team to achieve excellence. Thereby, Virat Kohli must also want the same thing for India. There is no doubt that he would captain more matches than any other captain.

The journey of Virat Kohli as the Indian captain

Virat Kohli took the mantle of Test captaincy from Dhoni in the 2014-15 tour against Australia. Since then he has led the team in 61 Test matches. Under his captaincy, the Indian team played up to their maximum potential to secure a victory in the 11 home series. Moreover, Virat Kohli also has the highest win percentage in Test matches amongst other Indian captains. His win percentage is 70.43 which surpasses the 59.52 win percentage of Dhoni.

MS Dhoni had won 27 Test matches as a captain and lost 18 out of 60 matches that he captained. But Virat Kohli has won 36 matches and lost just 14 games.

Kohli has always led the team from the front and has redefined the standards of being a fit and agile player. Under his leadership, the players of the national team have taken particular care of their fitness standards and maintained a healthy diet.

There is no doubt that Virat Kohli wants Indian cricket to reach new heights. He can usually make a good contribution with the bat in crucial moments and redirect the game for India.
