Ravindra Jadeja

Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar stated that the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja in India's playing XI backfired. The veteran feels that a specialist batsman like Hanuma Vihari could have provided more depth in the batting line-up. Ravindra Jadeja picked up only one wicket in the entire match. With the bat, he scored 15 and 16 in both innings. The Indian cricket team failed to put up a solid score. Because of this, Sanjay Manjrekar weighed in on the all-rounder's inclusion, saying that his batting was a gambling team India took, but it never paid off.

With Vihari's presence, India's score could've gone till 220: Sanjay Manjrekar

Ravindra Jadeja's batting performance has been on an upward curve. In the last three years, he averages over 50 with the bat. But in conditions where there was plenty of assistance for the pacers, Sanjay Manjrekar feels Jadeja's inclusion was surprising. The commentator also advised that if the Indian team had to pick a specialist to contribute down the batting order, they might as well have gone for Hanuma Vihari. The middle-order batsman has a pretty good defense. With his presence, India's score could've gone till 220, 230, or even 250 in the second innings.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and their team are now preparing for the five-match series against hosts England. The series is going to start in August. After India's loss in the WTC final, Captain Virat Kohli indicated that the team combination could be changed for the forthcoming matches. Thus, it would be thrilling to see what strategy the Indian team will opt against the England team.

The first cycle of the ICC WTC concluded with team India ending second best despite dominating the league stage of the tournament. The new WTC cycle will begin for the Indian team with the 5-match Test series against England, starting August 04. After the conclusion of the England series, the Indian cricket team will head to UAE for the Indian Premier League. India's second assignment in the Test Championship (2021-23) will be against defending WTC champions New Zealand at home. The series is going to take place after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup in November this year.
