Sanjay Manjrekar has selected India's playing XI for the forthcoming World Test Championship final. India will face New Zealand in the WTC final beginning on June 18. Sanjay Manjrekar has not included Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja in the team that he has picked, keeping in mind the typical English conditions. The former Indian batsman explained how the conditions are likely to affect the team combinations. In England, it seems to get sunny and cloudy on some days. Manjrekar further added that Indian team management would look into that aspect and select the team accordingly.
Hanuma Vihari will be able to play well in the swing and seam conditions: Sanjay Manjrekar
The 55-year-old believes that Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma should open the innings for team India. He has also picked Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane as the middle-order batsmen. While the top five players were also on everyone's list, the inclusion of Hanuma Vihari at number six was quite surprising. Sanjay Manjrekar feels Hanuma Vihari has an excellent technique, and the batsman will be able to play well in the swing and seam conditions. Rishabh Pant will come to bat at no.7 in Manjrekar's playing XI.
Surprisingly, the former has selected only Ravi Ashwin as the only spinner for the final clash. Ravi Ashwin is currently placed third in the list of leading wicket-taker in the World Test Championship. In 13 matches so far, Ashwin has picked up 67 wickets. Talking about the spinners, the cold conditions in Southampton might not be too helpful for the spinners. However, the pitch is anticipated to remain solid throughout the Test match. Now, he requires four more wickets to reach the top. Talking about the Pace unit, he has picked Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammad Shami.
The forthcoming ICC World Test Championship final will be Virat Kohli's first ICC trophy if he wins it. However, they will be playing against a competitive team. India has lost only once in the Championship, and that loss came against New Zealand. The Kiwis are proficient at playing in the given conditions in the UK.
