Sanju Samson drops a big hint at Rajasthan's auction strategy, franchise not to bid for these stalwarts

Rajasthan has put a lot of trust in their young players in the past, and they even made Sanju Samson their captain. Ahead of the 2022 season, they retained Samson as their captain, Jos Buttler, and Yashasvi Jaiswal as their uncapped player. This time too, it looks like Rajasthan will back young players in the mega auction.

In a recent press release, Sanju Samson has said that the team is looking for players that can be the team's base for the next 5-6 years. He also mentioned that they are giving opportunities to many players in the trials. Rajasthan is targeting players who understand their vision, he added. From this statement, it can be derived that Rajasthan might not target too many experienced players. This means that players like Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and S Sreesanth are not on the radar for Rajasthan Royals.

"This auction is really important because we know we could very well be preparing our base for the next 5-6 years. So, we’ve made sure to track everyone and give the opportunity to as many players as possible during the trials. Our goal is to now target the ones we think align with our vision, can embrace our values, and help our team get back to the top," the skipper said.

Rajasthan has been very active in the auctions and have paid huge sums of money to the players in past. These decisions have not necessarily gone their way. In fact, most have gone against them. This time around, they will try to be smarter about the decisions they make in the auction room.

Kumar Sangakkara- the team's Director of Cricket- backed their system to identify players.  He said that analytical assessment is detailed, and the data is further filtered with a robust process. All this allows them to refine the player identification process.
