New Zealand and Sri Lanka played a thriller in the first of the three-match T20I series at Eden Park in Auckland. The hosts’ skipper Tom Latham won the toss and decided to field first. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a decent total of 196 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
New Zealand required 7 runs off the last ball in the end having the lower order batter Ish Sodhi on strike. Out of nowhere and in utter surprise to everyone in the stadium and those who were watching on TV sets, Sodhi smashed an amazing six over midwicket to end the match in a thrilling tie.
Although Sri Lanka won the super over and ended up winning the match the cricket fans were left awestruck and thrilled following this nail-biting encounter between both teams. Subsequently, the fans took to Twitter and came up with exciting and interesting reactions for Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Speaking of the entire action of the match, Charith Asalanka and number three batter Kusal Mendis played the crucial half-century knocks with the individual scores of 67 and 53 runs off 41 and 45 balls respectively. These knocks helped Sri Lanka to reach a total of 196 runs for the loss of five wickets in the first 20 overs of the match.
James Neesham scalped two wickets for the Kiwis alongside one wicket each claimed by Adam Milne, Benjamin Lister, and Henry Shipley.
While chasing the target, the middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell contributed with crucial 66 runs off 44 balls with five boundaries and three sixes to his name. Other than him, Mark Chapman also scored 33 runs off 23 balls with two boundaries and the same number of sixes.
Later at the end, Ish Sodhi gave a thrilling finish to the match by hitting the six on the last when his team required 7 off the last ball. Eventually, the visitors won in the super over to take a lead of 1-0 in the series having Charith Asalanka as ‘the player of the match.
