On Wednesday, India's opener Prithvi Shaw etched his name in the record books with a phenomenal performance in a Ranji Trophy match against Assam. He scored 379 runs off 383 deliveries, including 49 fours and 4 sixes, leading Mumbai to declare their first innings at 687/4.
Despite his outstanding domestic cricket and Indian T20 League performances, Shaw is currently out of the Indian national team across all formats, with his last appearance being a T20I match against Sri Lanka in 2021. The repeated exclusion has caused him to post cryptic messages on social media, expressing his disappointment. Shaw spoke of the trolling he receives and how it hurts him but he said he has learned to not let it affect him.
“What can I do? Sidha ignore kar deta hoon (I just ignore them). I am not a person who loves talking negative things about people. At times, it hurts when you see or come across things about you that are not correct. But you need to take things in your stride and follow your own process,” Shaw said.
I don't worry about what's being written- Shaw
The 23-year-old said that he doesn’t worry about what’s being said about him in the media and only focusses on performing to the best of his abilities.
“As long as I am okay with my performance and how I deal with my life, I don’t worry about what’s being written or spoken about. Agar main sahi hoon (if I am right), then if someone is saying something on social media, mujhe koi farak nahi padta (it does not bother me),” the batter further added.
There has been questions about his exclusion in the media as well, with the young batter finding many supporters amidst the noise. Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav also posted about his triple century in the Ranji match. He wrote, “Prithvi Shaw 379 Madness.”
