Selectors keenly eyeing Umran Malik for T20I series against South Africa: Reports

Umran Malik has impressed everyone with his extraordinary pace in the Indian T20 League 2022. He has been clocking 150 kmph consistently. The Hyderabad team has put a lot of trust in the youngster and he has delivered for them on most occasions. Malik has picked up nine wickets in the six matches that he has played so far.

It has now been reported that the national team selectors are keeping a keen eye on the youngster. The selectors might pick him for India's T20I series against South Africa, due to start on the 9th of June.

"Anyone who can bowl as fast as Umran Malik is bowling is a special talent. Everyone is impressed with his pace. He will surely be on the selector’s radar," Sports Tiger quoted a member of the selection committee saying.

Dale Steyn, Hyderabad's fast bowling coach, was also impressed with the 22-year old. "My primary job with Umran is to make sure that he runs fast and force batters to play him differently. It’s really exciting for us to just sit in the dugout and witness what a genius he is," Steyn had said.

The 1983 World Cup-winning player, Sunil Gavaskar also was in awe of Malik and said that he can play for India in near future. "If he bowls wicket-to-wicket and controls the wides down the leg side, he will be a tremendous bowler," Gavaskar said.

Umran Malik's performance against Punjab in a recent match caught everyone's attention. He bowled a maiden 20th over, picking three wickets as well to complete a four-wicket haul.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad had a minor hiccup at the start of the tournament where they lost two back to back games. However, they have bounced back in style, winning their last four games. They stand fifth on the points table with eight points.
