India has not faced Pakistan in a bilateral series since 2013. The white-ball series played in 2012-2013 was the last time these two opponents came head to head in a bilateral series. Since then, they have had many big World Cup matches, Asia Cup matches, and Champions trophy matches.

Cricket Australia has now hinted that they wish to participate in a tri-nation series with India and Pakistan. CA Chief executive, Kevin Roberts said that Australia is keen on hosting India and Pakistan for a tri-series.

Earlier in 2021, when BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was asked about the two teams playing each other other than World events, he said that the decision is in the hands of the two governments. “This is not in the hands of the boards. At world tournaments, the two teams do play each other. Bilateral cricket has been stopped for years and this is something that the respective governments have to work on. This is not in Rameez’s hands, nor mine,” Ganguly said at 40th Sharjah International Book Fair.

Meanwhile, Australia is currently touring Pakistan for a historic bilateral series. The first Test match of the series ended in a draw, as the Rawalpindi pitch was a dead soul. The teams will play their next game from the 12th of March.

India, on the other hand, is playing a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. They completely outplayed Sri Lanka in the first match and picked up a comfortable innings victory on the third day itself. India will also play their next game on the 12th of March.
