Sri Lanka is going through economic turmoil at the moment with inflation at an all-time high. So, in a time like this when Australia decided to tour Sri Lanka, it came as a relief to many. The Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan de Silva has come out and given voice to his countrymen's feelings by saying that Australia’s arrival would be a huge economic boost to Sri Lanka.

Australia are slated for a tour of Sri Lanka starting from June 7. They will play a total of 10 matches spanning 35 days. The tour will consist of three T20Is followed by five ODIs and would end with two Test matches generating a total of $ 2.5 million in earnings.

The Sri Lankan Cricket secretary was beaming with hope when he said, “While welcoming the Australians, I am proud to say that the Australian tour is very important to the country not only on the cricket front but also economically given the foreign exchange revenue accruing to the country during this critical juncture of the economy as Sri Lanka Cricket has unanimously decided to donate all the proceeds for the benefit of the people.”

The secretary paid gratitude to Cricket Australia for sending their first team in a time of crisis. He also asked other cricket playing nations to plan a tour to the crisis-hit nation and not shy away from sending their national teams to the Southernmost Asian country.

“It has been a magnanimous gesture by Cricket Australia of which we are very appreciative and grateful. It is particularly an example to other major cricket-playing countries that have been shying from sending teams here. In that vein, the great gesture by Cricket Australia and its players touring Sri Lanka at such a critical economic juncture is a victory not only for Sri Lanka Cricket, but the country as a whole,” he explained in a state of hopefulness.
