West Indies cricket board has recently announced a 13-man squad for the first Test match against South Africa. The series is set to begin on Thursday. Jayden Seales has been selected and is a part of the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series. The 19-year-old pacer has only featured in one first-class, three List A, and six T20 matches after making his debut back in August 2020. Jayden Seales made headlines in the 2020 U19 World Cup, where he grabbed ten wickets from six games at an economy rate of 3.89. His best bowling figures of 4/49 came against Australia and also helped WI to a three-wicket win. The young fast bowler was also a part of the Trinbago Knight Riders. The team had won the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
South Africa set to travel to WI for the first time in 11 years
The selection committee has also included Shai Hope and Kieran Powell in the team. Shai Hope last featured in Test cricket in England in July last year. On the other hand, Powell's previous Test appearance was in Bangladesh in December 2018. The only West Indies player to play in all the game formats, Jason Holder is expected to feature in all the matches against the Proteas. Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the team after his impressive shows in both the tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The Caribbean team has won only three of their 28 tests against South Africa, with the last win in 2007. This will be the first instance when both the teams will meet in the most extended format of the game since 2015.
The entire WI team is presently based in St Lucia. They have also begun their training while being in a bio-secure environment. The venue for the two-Test match series between South Africa and West Indies has been finalized. The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium will host the two games. On the other end, the National Cricket Stadium is the venue for the five T20I matches.
