Shakib Al Hasan doubtful for the tour of New Zealand

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is uncertain for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand after sustaining an injury. The 33-year-old made his comeback to competitive cricket, and he also played for the Mahmudullah-led Gemcon Khulna in the inaugural Bangabandhu T20 Cup. The all-rounder didn’t feature in the final match against Gazi Group Chattogram after heading back to the USA.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is doubtful for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand after sustaining an injury. The 33-year-old made his comeback to competitive cricket, and he also played for the Gemcon Khulna in the inaugural Bangabandhu T20 Cup. The all-rounder didn’t feature in the final match against Gazi Group Chattogram after heading back to the USA.

Al Hasan returned to international cricket for the first time since September 2019, in the 3-match ODI series against West Indies. During the third and final ODI match, Hasan developed a groin niggle against the Caribbean team. Shakib Al Hasan smashed 113 runs and picked up six wickets to win the series award player. However, after the groin niggle, he was not able to complete his bowling spell bowling. He bowled only 4.5 overs and gave away 12 runs.

The hosts will depend on their key player for the upcoming tour in February and March. Bangladesh has never defeated the black caps in New Zealand. They will be playing three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals against the Kiwis.

In 2015, Shakib Al Hasan created history as he became the first and only cricketer to be ranked the No.1 all-rounder in all three formats of the game. The cricketer was banned from all cricket forms for two years by the International Cricket Council for breaching the ICC-Anti Corruption Code. It was known that the cricketer was contacted by bookmakers during the Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series and the IPL 2018

Bangladesh completed the whitewash in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies after winning the last ODI by 120 runs at Chattogram. The win has now placed Bangladesh in the second position in the ODI Super League points table. The hosts won the first match by six wickets chasing 123 successfully and won second ODI by seven wickets chasing 149. 

Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal was the leading run-getter for the side with 158 runs, while Rovman Powell scored 116 runs. Shakib Al Hasan was the third-highest run-scorer with 113 runs at an average of 56.5. He was also the second-highest wicket-taker scalping six wickets. Mehidy Hasan picked up seven wickets, and Mustafizur Rahman claimed six wickets in 20 overs.
