The 40th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, April 29. A clinical performance from SRH, who found their death bowling mojo once again through T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, saw them beating Delhi Capitals by 9 runs. It's also a big sense of relief for Aiden Markram and his boys, who got back to winning ways.

Talking about the match, SRH skipper Markram won the toss and opted to bat first. However, initially, it looked like the decision was wrong as the 2016 champion were losing wickets at regular interval of time. Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, and Harry Brook all disappointed the fans as they couldn't produce anything special for the team.

However, their young left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma kept the one end safe and was also scoring runs at a good pace. He smashed 67 runs off just 36 deliveries, a knock which included 12 fours and a six. In the end, wicketkeeper-batter Henrich Klaasen finished the innings brilliantly as he also smashed a half-century and scored 53 runs off just 27 balls which included 2 fours and 4 sixes. Mitchell Marsh bowled brilliantly for DC as in his 4-over quota, he took 4 wickets and conceded only 27 runs. A double-wicket maiden over was included in his spell.

Poor batting performance by DC middle order

In response,  DC started the innings by losing their dangerous opener David Warner for a duck, but it was followed by a 112-run partnership between Mitchel Marsh and Phil Salt. The duo looked like they'd take the game away, but shortly after the halfway stage, the wickets began to tumble. Neither of the two set batters could continue for much longer after their fifties, and the pitch got slower to make things tougher.

And as always, the DC middle-order disappointed the fans once again as none of them could utilize the outstanding start given by Marsh and Salt. Many fans have criticised DC management for not sending Axar Patel higher up the order.
