In what seems to be shocking for cricket fans, the young Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has announced his retirement from the ODI at the age of 24. The upcoming edition of the ODI World Cup 2023, in India will be his last appearance for Afghanistan in the 50-over format at the highest level of the game.
The star pacer has featured in only 7 ODIs so far, scalping 14 wickets, including a best performance of 4/42. The Kabul-born cricketer took to his official Instagram handle to make this announcement. Notably, he has arrived in India with the Afghanistan squad for the upcoming edition of the ODI World Cup.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank Afghanistan Cricket Board And all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” wrote Naveen in his latest Instagram post.

Naveen was in the headlines of both social and mainstream media when he indulged in a heated argument and altercation with the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. The incident took during an IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants earlier this year.
Following that, Naveen also happened to fall on the receiving end of some harsh trolls on social media from Virat Kohli. As a result, he had to turn off comments on his Instagram account to prevent himself from the hard and fast-lined remarks from the Indian Cricket fans, especially the fans of Virat Kohli, who were not happy with his actions during the verbal argument with the former in the IPL 2023 match.
Here's how fans reacted to Naveen ul-Haq's retirement:

Naveen Ul Haq's decision to retire from ODIs at such a young age is surprising. It's a personal choice, and he must have his reasons for it.
