Rajasthan vs Lucknow (Image source- BCCI/IPL)
Rajasthan picked up a three-run win over Lucknow in a nailbiter. Lucknow won the toss and went with the obvious choice of bowling first in the match. Devdutt Padikkal gave Rajasthan a decent start in the powerplay. While the start wasn't a brisk one, it was stable. Jos Buttler lost his wicket to Avesh Khan in the 6th over as Rajasthan ended the powerplay at 44-1. They then lost three more wickets in the 9th and 10th over. Sanju Samson, Padikkal, and Rassie van der Dussen were all sent back for a score of 67.
Shimron Hetmyer and Ravichandran Ashwin then had to do the repair work. They played with caution throughout the innings and added 68 runs together. Towards the end of the innings, Hetmyer exploded. He hit some lusty blows as Rajasthan ended their innings at 165-6. Hetmyer stayed not out on 59 in 36 balls, with just a single boundary and six sixes. Jason Holder and Krishnappa Gowtham took two wickets, while Avesh Khan got a single wicket.
Rajasthan had a perfect start to the second innings. Trent Boult bowled out KL Rahul on the first ball with excellent delivery. He then took the wicket of Gowtham on the 2nd ball of the over. Holder also departed shortly after, as Prasidh Krishna struck in the fourth over. Amidst this, Quinton de Kock stuck around as he was joined by Deepak Hooda. In the 10th over, Hooda departed, thanks to a great ball by the debutant Kuldeep Sen. Yuzvendra Chahal then joined the party, as he dismissed Ayush Badoni, leaving Lucknow tottering at 74-5 in the 12th over.
De Kock was trying to anchor the innings, but the need to score runs at more than 10 runs per over got the better of him. He scored 39 runs in 32 balls and was dismissed in the 16th over, with the target still a fair way away. The match looked done and dusted for Lucknow before Marcus Stoinis spooked life in it with some lusty blows. He brought the equation down to 15 off the last over, having scored 19 in the 19th over. However, debutant Kuldeep Sen bowled a magnificent over to hand Rajasthan an impressive win.
