On Wednesday, the stand-in captain of Delhi Capitals, Shikhar Dhawan has voiced his pleasure over leading DC to a 13-run victory over Rajasthan Royals. Dhawan had to lead the team on Wednesday game after Shreyas Iyer went back from the field having a shoulder injury during the fifth over of RR’s innings.

Delhi Capitals elected to bat first and made 161 runs for 7 in 20 overs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Shreyas Iyer both scored half-centuries. Iyer's choice to bat first looked to have backfired at first when Jofra Archer picked up the wicket of in-form Prithvi Shaw for a duck on the first ball of the match.

Archer picked up the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane during his next over. Delhi Capitals was reeling at a score of 10 for 2 at that time. However, before the Rajasthan based-bowlers could make further progress for their side in the game, Dhawan and Iyer steadied the sinking boat of DC. The pair partnered and scored 85-run together before Dhawan went back at 57 runs.

Shikhar Dhawan expressed his happiness after leading his side to win the match

Shikhar Dhawan scored 57 off 33 deliveries, which included six fours and a couple of sixes. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer struggled for playing big shots. At one stage, he had a score of 38 off 37 deliveries. On the next moment, he hit Jaydev Unadkat for two sixes and completed his half-century off 40 deliveries.

Delhi Capitals failed to complete their innings with a high score after Iyer was out for 53. During their final five overs, they scored only 32 runs and lost four wickets. Rajasthan Royals managed to score 148 for 8 in reply to DC. They fell short of 13 runs to complete their target. With 32 runs, Robin Uthappa was the top-scorer for the RR.

Interacting after the game, Shikhar Dhawan said he liked leading Delhi Capitals. He said Delhi was sure of completing the task due to a lack of depth in the batting line-up of the Rajasthan Royals.

“I am glad that we won this game. Coming back into this was a great team effort. Quite enjoyed it. We always believed we had a chance. Knew their batting is not that deep.

“We knew we could get into them if we got the top order. And we have got experience in the bowling. Now we have got a gun bowler in Anrich. And Tushar bowled smartly too, bowling slower balls, making them hit to the bigger boundary,”.
