The match-fixing scandals have destroyed many promising careers at the domestic and international levels after players were found guilty of accepting bribes from bookies for underperforming in matches. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's case was unfortunate. Even though he had refused to accept money but his failure to report the matter to the Anti-Corruption Unit earned him a two-year ban and a year's suspension.
Now, it has been reported that a senior India domestic player was also offered a bribe to fix matches, but not only did he deny it, he also reported the matter to the concerned authorities.
Former ITL & Ranji Trophy cricketer Rajagopal Sathish has reportedly admitted that he was offered a sum of INR 40 lakhs by someone on Instagram for fixing a match. Apart from lodging a police complaint, Satish has also informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) & the Cricket's governing body regarding the issue.
"The player approached us and ICC, and informed us that someone had approached him on Instagram. We took details of the case and told our ACU officer to file a police complaint in the matter. We are just a facilitator and now police will look into the case," the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit chief said while speaking to The Indian Express.
The police further confirmed that a person named Bunty approached Sathish to fix matches, possibly in Tamil Nadu Premier League, and offered him a lucrative offer of INR 40 Lakh which Sathish denied.
"On January 3, a person named Bunny Anand contacted Sathish on Instagram and messaged him luring to pay Rs 40 lakh and told that two players have already agreed to the offer. Sathish said that he said ‘sorry’ to the offer,” read the complaint.
Rajagopal Satish had represented Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy and had played for a few ITL franchises, including the likes of Mumbai, Kolkata and Punjab. He currently plays for Chepauk Super Gillies in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
