The second T20I between India and South Africa got underway on Sunday at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and invited India to bat first on the ground that has been historically a low-scoring one.

Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma began the innings in grand fashion as they started playing their shots right from the word go. However, during the innings, a bizarre moment happened when a snake halted the play at the ground.

The incident took place at the end of the seventh over when India were at 68/0. A few South African players spotted a snake on the ground and pointed it out to KL Rahul and the on-field umpires. The ground staff rushed in with the necessary equipment and the snake was taken off the ground in a couple of minutes.

The people who witnessed the bizarre incident can proudly say that they’ve literally seen everything on the cricket field. Meanwhile, Indian openers looked in fine form as they played in the new brand of cricket, showing intent right from the word go.

Rahul, who was heavily criticized in the first T20I for his slow knock, answered the critics in some style. After being watchful early on, Rahul unfurled some majestic shots from his armoury and began plundering the ball all around the ground. The opener brought up his half-century in just 24 balls with the gigantic six against Aiden Markram. He was finally dismissed after scoring a brilliant 57 off 28 balls with the help of five boundaries and four sixes.

Rahul got great support from captain Rohit Sharma, who also took the attack on the opposition after being cautious early on in the innings. The openers brought up their 50-run partnership in 33 balls and became the pair with most 50+ stands in T20 internationals, breaching the landmark on 15 occasions. They overtook the prolific Pakistan pair of Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam who have 14 partnerships in excess of 50 to their name.

Their magnificent partnership of 98 was ended in the 10th over as Rohit Sharma was finally dismissed by Keshav Maharaj after scoring 43 off 37 balls.
