The interview for the head coach of the India Women’s Cricket Team is being conducted at present. Eight Indian internationals have been shortlisted for interviews even though many experienced coaches applied for the role. There were 35 applicants in total. The shortlisted candidates included four men and four women. The four men including current women's head coach WV Raman, gave the interview virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Wednesday. The other candidates who appeared for the interview were former coach Ramesh Powar, Ajay Ratra, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar.
The aforementioned four male candidates were the only ones who gave the interview on Wednesday. The four shortlisted female candidates are Mamtha Maben, Devika Palshikar, Hemlatha Kala, and Suman Sharma. They are going to give the interview on Thursday of this week.
The Cricket Advisory Committee conducting the discussion is led by Madan Lal
Madan Lal, the head of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has confirmed that the interviews are being held at the moment. Four shortlisted male candidates have already completed their interviews for the role. The shortlisted female candidates are going to give the interview on Thursday.
Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members, Madan Lal and Sulakshana Naik conducted the interviews. CAC member RP Singh couldn't join them as his father passed away on the day of the interview.
On Wednesday, the four male candidates who attended the interviews gave good presentations. There was an extensive discussion on the plans and guidelines for going into next year's women’s ODI World Cup. It is going to be a major Women's cricket event next year.
One of the questions asked to the candidates was about creating bench strength. It may be necessary once some of the legends call time after the completion of next year's marquee event.
The final decision about the women’s nationals cricket team is going to take place after the evaluation of all the contestants. WV Raman looks to be the preferred choice at present for the role of India Women’s head coach. However, the head of the Women's Selection Committee, Neetu David, is going to favor a female head coach. The appointed head coach will have to work with the India women’s national team, women’s India U-19, and women’s India A.
