Kyle Mayers, this season has been a brilliant find for the Lucknow Super Giants. The West Indies' start batter got a chance early in the season due to Quinton de Kock's unavailability. However, he has cemented a place in the Playing XI despite De Kock returning and delivering his promise.

He has been incredible throughout the Indian Premier League 2023 and maintained that in the ongoing match against Punjab Kings. In the 38th match of the IPL 2023, PBKS is hosting LSG at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Winning the toss, Punjab invited Lucknow to bat first on a good batting surface.

This decision worked out really well for the visitors as Kyle Mayers got off to a fly start. While he did not get much support from his opening partner, KL Rahul, Mayers was in no mood to waste time. He played a quickfire knock and dealt in boundaries. In his innings studded with seven boundaries and four sixes, he scored 54 runs in just 24 balls.

His dominance, however, did not last long after the powerplay, as he lost his wicket on the fifth ball of the sixth over by Kagiso Rabada. Rabada bowled a length delivery with considerable bounce, leaving Myers with minimal room to work with. He attempted to hit it down the ground, but the ball smacked him high on the bat and landed directly in the hands of Shikar Dhawan.

Mayers' half-century was his fourth of the season. So far, he has scored 297 runs at an average of 37 and a strike rate of more than 160 in eight matches. The all-rounder has left very little room for De Kock to be able to make a comeback in the Playing XI. With another West Indies player, Nicholas Pooran, doing good work behind the stumps, the South African has been warming the bench for a long time.
