Young opening batsman Shubman Gill is likely to miss the forthcoming 5-Test series against England. The first test match of the series is going to start on August 4. The youngster is likely to be ruled out of the entire series with an undisclosed injury. Considering that Shubman Gill is expected to be unavailable for the Test series, 25-year-old Bengal opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran might be added to the team. Abhimanyu has traveled with the team as one of the backup players. It is known that Shubman Gill has either sustained a calf muscle injury or hamstring tear. It is still not clear how and when he picked up the injury.

India set to play five Tests against England from August 4 to September 14

Shubman Gill is going to stay with the team in England. Physio Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning coach Sohum Desai are going to monitor his progress. Gill did not show any signs of discomfort during the World Test Championship final, which was played from June 18 to 23. The Indian opening batsman did not manage to score many runs in both innings. However, it is most likely that Gill could make a comeback later in the series. India is going to play five Tests against England, which will from August 4 to September 14.

After the fantastic debut in the Australia series, Shubman Gill has faced a lean patch with the bat in the most extended format of the game. He scored 28 and 8 in the WTC final. Earlier this year, the Punjab batsman has scored only one half-century in the home series against England. Shubman Gill had made a mark in his debut Test series in Australia. The young opening batsman had hit a match-winning 91 and helped India win against Australia in the 4th Test at the Gabba, Brisbane.

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul were not included in the ICC WTC Final squad. Thus, one of them might be included in the team as a replacement of Gill in the series against England. KL Rahul has recovered from his appendicitis surgery, whereas Mayank Agarwal has shown good touch in the Indian Premier League.
