Shubham Gill

Brad Hogg believes that Shubman Gill has the ability to become one of the finest Test openers. The 21-year-old batsman made his Test debut in the second Test of the 2020 Border-Gavaskar series. Gill was brought in as a replacement for Prithvi Shaw. The youngster notched up his maiden half-century in Sydney, and smashed a game-changing knock of 91 runs in the second innings of the Brisbane's final Test.

Gill's brilliant innings on the series decider was something that will always be remembered. In just three Tests, Shubman Gill accumulated 259 runs at a brilliant average of 51.80. He also scored two half-centuries in the series. Shubman Gill's brilliant innings was of utmost importance as India ended Australia's 32-year unbeaten record at the Gabba.

Brad Hogg points out a weakness in Shubman Gill's technique

Brad Hogg also pointed out a weakness in Shubman Gill's batting technique. He stated that the 21-year-old fails to cover the ball line and ends up playing away from his body. Hogg, therefore, believes that the young batsman should focus on getting away from the ball. His excellent performances in Australia have kept other openers like Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul out of the playing XI. It will be exciting to see if the opening batsman continues his brilliant performances against England. The opening duo of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma notched two 50+ partnerships in Australia. Team India isn't likely to make changes in the opening pair in the upcoming Test series against England.

The first Test match is scheduled for the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, February 5.
