Shubman Gill

Team India’s fielding coach stated that Shubman Gill is the most complete athlete. He also praised Gill’s hand-eye coordination.

The young batsman has been selected in the Indian squad that will play for the England tour. The Indian team would first play in the WTC finals against New Zealand starting on 18th June. After that, the Indian team would face the host nation in a five-match test series in August.

R Sridhar recently explained how he chooses the right fielding position for Shubman Gill. He appreciated that Gill is tall, slim, and runs fast. He also has good hand-eye coordination. As a fielding coach, he tries to make sure the player's mindset is in tune with the national team. He explained how they observe the player’s reflexes, speed to the ball, and ability to throw from the deep to finalize a position for that player.

Shubman Gill is usually placed as a close-in fielder at the silly point when the spinners are bowling.

Brad Hogg highlighted Shubman Gill’s weakness in batting

In his short international career, Shubman Gill established himself in the national team following his stint in Australia. Although He had a below-par home Test series against England, the selectors picked him for the England tour.

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg recently pointed out some of Gill’s weakness as a batsman. He stated that Gill has just one little weakness where he plays away from his body outside the off-Stump. Gill kind of plays a half-cut half-back foot drive which can easily be exposed with a new ball. But he also tends to score a lot of runs like that as well. So Hogg suggested that if Gill is averaging 40 in that particular area with that shot it would be useless to emphasize that weakness.

Shubman Gill would probably partner with Rohit Sharma to open for India in the WTC final later this month.

The Indian team is currently quarantined in Mumbai at a luxury hotel. It is a compulsory 8-day long quarantine for all the players flying to England. The BCCI had arranged for charter planes to get the players to Mumbai. The Indian men’s and women’s teams would fly to England together on 2nd June for their respective matches.
