Shubman Gill is a remarkable player: VVS Laxman

Former Indian Test specialist VVS Laxman praised the young batsman and tagged him as a remarkable player. Gill, who made his debut in the second Test in Melbourne, was brought in as a replacement of Prithvi Shaw in the playing XI. The batsman immediately made a positive impression by giving India reliable starts in both the innings at Melbourne. Shubman Gill kept on impressing everyone with his scores as the series progressed. The right-handed batsman also smashed his maiden fifty in the third Test in Sydney. But the innings that genuinely proved his worth was India's second innings in Brisbane.

During a massive chase of 328 runs on the fifth day, the young batsman laid India's foundation with a brilliant knock of 91 runs in 146 balls. His innings included eight boundaries and two sixes. Gill also formed a 114-run partnership for the second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara. The duo helped the side in registering a memorable win in the series-deciding encounter of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

VVS Laxman tagged Shubman Gill an exceptional player. The former Indian batsman observed that the young opener had ensured that the team enjoyed the upper hand in the Brisbane Test's first session. He further stated that Shubman Gill did not allow the hosts to gain an advantage despite the early loss of Rohit Sharma. Gill and Pujara stood firm in the middle of the crease on the final day of the series.

The Punjab-born batsman ended up the series in Australia by scoring 259 and impressed the entire cricket fraternity. With his stunning performance, the youngster has fixed his place at the top of the order in the Test side. His next assignment is going to be against England. Gill will most likely open the batting with Rohit Sharma in the four-match Test series starting February 5.
