Shubam Gill

Former cricketer VVS Laxman believes Shubman Gill is going to have a promising future with team India. The youngster will not only be raising his performances in Test cricket but also in all formats of the game. Gill made his Test debut against Australia, accumulating 259 runs with an average of 51.80 in six innings. The opening batsman is now a recognized young talent who is expected to do greater things for the Indian team.

The Border-Gavaskar Series saw the emergence of many new Indian talents. Among all those, Shubman Gill stood out. The batsman amazed everyone with the class and elegance he batted in the Melbourne Test. He was brought in as a replacement for Prithvi Shaw.

Shubman Gill captured everyone’s attention during India’s victorious U-19 World Cup campaign in 2018. The right-handed batsman finished the tournament as the player of the series. VVS Laxman believes that Gill’s ability to wait for the correct opportunity holds him in a good position. Despite not starting the series as India’s first-choice opener, he fought his way and concluded the series as India’s highest-scoring opening batsman.

Gill will be a crucial part of India’s set up in the future: VVS Laxman

Shubman Gill’s aggression at the top order proved to be a positive aspect for the visitors in Australia. The former middle-order batsman also appreciated Gill for not getting terrified by the Australian pace unit. The best moment of Shubman Gill’s series was arguably the 91 he made in Brisbane. His counter-attacking innings stirred hopes of an unlikely victory on the last day of the series.

VVS Laxman was amazed by Gill’s temperament, stating that he will be a crucial part of India’s set up in the coming years. Although Shubman Gill has played just three ODIs, Laxman believes the young batsman will shine in the limited over format as well.
The first Test between India and England is going to begin on February 5.
