Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes Shubman Gill is going to score numerous Test centuries for India. Shubman Gill formed a solid partnership along with Rohit Sharma, and both the openers added 62 runs for the first wicket.

Shubman Gill had an encouraging start to his innings, but he failed to convert it into a big score. Fast bowler Neil Wagner dismissed the youngster for 28. Despite his early dismissal, the 21-year-old innings received a lot of praise from former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. He also lauded his temperament from the commentary box.

Shubman Gill needs to clear the hurdle of getting his first Test century: Gavaskar

The Indian batting legend predicted that Shubman Gill would score multiple centuries for India. The 21-year-old has slammed three half-centuries so far with a best of 91 against Australia earlier this year. Sunil Gavaskar also added that the youngster just needs to clear the hurdle of getting his first Test century.

On day two, the Indian cricket team lost both openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill after a solid start. The duo managed to score 69 for 2 at lunch against New Zealand on Saturday. Rohit Sharma (34 off 68 balls) and Shubman Gill (28 off 64 balls) added 62 for the opening partnership as they looked impressive against the New Zealand seam attack. However, after having done the hard work of nearly seeing off the new ball, Rohit Sharma edged one off Kyle Jamieson to Tim Southee at third slip. His innings comprised of six boundaries.

Soon after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill also headed back to the pavilion. Neil Wagner removed the youngster. With this, the duo matched Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly's milestone of recording a fifty-plus opening partnership in an ICC final. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly had accomplished the milestone in the Champions Trophy final back in 2000. Sourav Ganguly had scored 117 runs, whereas Sachin Tendulkar had registered a 69-run knock. Meanwhile, Team India ended Day 2 at 146 runs for the loss of three wickets after 64.4 overs. Virat Kohli was batting at 44 runs, whereas Ajinkya Rahane looked defensively strong with 29 runs.
