In what has come as a huge shock to millions of Indian cricket fans, star India bowler Ravi Ashwin has been dropped from the WTC final against Australia. The right-arm bowler is one of India's biggest trump cards when playing against quality batting attackers, which is why his exclusion has confused a lot of fans on social media.

A fan by the name of Jatin Khandelwal believes this is an insult to Ashwin. In a strongly worded tweet, he wrote, "Absolute disrespect to Ashwin. No matter how Thakur performs, but dropping a legend in Ashwin is something I will never agree upon no matter the conditions. Such selection further fuel up the Aussie pundits who claim for Lyon being a better off-spinner than Ashwin."

While revealing the team sheet, Rohit Sharma, India's captain for the mega event said, "It's always tough. He's been a match-winner for us, over the course of many years. So, leaving him out was tough. But you got to do the things that are needed for the team. So, eventually, we came up with that decision,”

Many pundits claim that his exclusion owes to the fast-bowling friendliness of the Oval Cricket Ground. The inclusion of spin bowlers would have meant the exclusion of another fast bowler which eventually could have turned in Australia's favour.

Sachin has called for Ashwin's inclusion

Earlier, India's legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar had called for Ashwin's inclusion in the team.

"The Indian team will be happy that they are playing at the Oval. The nature of the Oval pitch is such that it assists the spinners as the match goes on. So, spinners will come into play a little bit.

"It need not be always a turning track as sometimes the spinners rely a lot on the bounce, sometimes that little bit of zip that they get off the pitch, also on the overhead conditions and it depends a lot on the shiny side of the ball.

"If they are able to get that drift, they can make the ball talk in the air without the pitch coming into play. So, Oval is going to be good venue for India," said Tendulkar on the eve of WTC final.
