Sri Lanka put on a dominating performance and finally managed to end the losing streak by winning the T20I series against India. It was indeed a proud moment for the team, who was grappling with a lot of on-field issues and controversies for a long time.
Although India were a depleted team, still they had a few experienced players such as Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Kuldeep Yadav in the team for the remaining two games. Naturally, with a convincing series win against a quality Indian side, the Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) board lauded the performances of the players and appreciated the team’s efforts to show the fight right till the end. In order to recognize the victory, the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka cricket has decided to award a sum of USD 1,00,0000 for the national team.
“The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket lauded the effort of the players, coaches, and support staff for bringing this much-needed victory, which it believes will augur well for the national team going forward,” said SLC in an official statement.
In the preceding ODI series too, Sri Lanka managed to win the third ODI against India and troubled the Indian batters with good spin bowling. This was the first T20I series victory for the Island nation since 2019. With the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 set to be held in Oman and UAE, this augurs well for the team. The team will now have the confidence and momentum going into the limited-overs series against South Africa in September.
